Welcome to ESSWE9: Western Esotericism and Practice
This June, more than 200 scholars and students from around the world will meet in Malmö for a comprehensive exploration of the many dimensions of practice in Western esotericism. Since the emergence of the academic study of Western esotericism, scholars have developed considerable knowledge and analytical tools for understanding what esotericists have believed or thought about the world and themselves — while less is known about what esotericists did or do. By promoting interdisciplinary exploration (with contributions drawn from scholars of, e.g., religion, history, anthropology, art history, folklore, ethnology, gender and sexuality, literature studies, and classical studies) of the important research frontier of esoteric practice, ESSWE9 aims to provide participants with an ideal opportunity to learn and advance our understanding of how esotericism has been embodied, enacted, and materialised from late antiquity until today.
