About the conference
The Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) is the largest risk research organisation in the world. SRA is a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, scholarly, international society that provides an open forum for all those who are interested in risk analysis. Risk analysis is by SRA broadly defined to include risk assessment, risk characterization, risk communication, risk management, and policy relating to risk, in the context of risks of concern to individuals, to public and private sector organisations, and to society at a local, regional, national, or global level. Risk analysis addresses both negative (undesirable) and positive (desirable) consequences. The diverse membership of SRA makes it a relevant scientific forum for an interdisciplinary discussion of leading issues in risk analysis, risk research and how risk theory can support communication, perception, assessment, and decision making and governance in our societies.
This conference is the 31st conference of the Society for Risk Analysis Europe (SRA-E). SRA-E aims to bring together individuals and organisations interested in risk analysis in its various facets such as risk assessment, risk management, risk governance and risk communication in Europe.
SRA-E shares a common purpose with SRA and emphasises the European dimension in the promotion of interdisciplinary research and education, and in practical application in society, industry, businesses and the government. It provides a platform for academics and practitioners, policymakers, NGOs members, industry and business administrators and other stakeholders, to discuss future directions, understand concerns about risk from both public and scientific perspectives, promote efficient risk mitigation and develop effective communication about hazards.
Its annual meeting is an opportunity for risk analysts to come together to discuss issues, problems, goals and future research questions. New areas for risk analysis are emerging and new disciplines are contributing to the ongoing debate about risk analysis in its various facets. This meeting is held annually in June and attracts 150-250 participants. This meeting will take place from 18 to 21 June 2023.
The theme for SRA Europe 2023 is Risk and assessment in a changing world. The theme reflects that the world is changing; we have experienced a societal disruption due to global hazards like the pandemic and climate change where environments or institutions that have been taken for granted suddenly are in danger, which forces us to consider new risks requiring careful development of concepts and theories as well as novel approaches for assessment. In addition, the flow of information and disinformation, the urge to deal with complex and uncertain problems, and the desire for quality and transparency in science-to-policy processes, are challenging the knowledge, skills and expertise required for assessment, management, and governance of risk.
We want the SRA Europe conference in Lund to be an opportunity to visualise the benefit of scientific perspectives on risk in research and in science policy relations, and the need to include these perspectives in higher education.
Welcome to submit an abstract for a talk or poster, participate in a workshop, or just join in to listen and discuss.
Ullrika Sahlin (chair), Henrik Thorén (co-chair), and Alexander Tagesson (student chair)
